PAPUA - In a remarkable act of dedication to community welfare, the RI-PNG Mobile Border Security Task Force Yonif 503/Mayangkara took the initiative to repair the Kalikote Bridge, a crucial access route for residents of Kalikote Village, Kenyam District, Nduga Regency, Papua. The bridge restoration was carried out in collaboration with the local community on Thursday (06/03/2025).

A Critical Lifeline for the Community

The Kalikote Bridge and the Iron Bridge are vital links connecting Amor Port to Kenyam District. Over the years, these bridges had deteriorated due to age, posing a significant risk to residents and disrupting transportation and economic activities in the region.

Recognizing the urgency, Lieutenant Inf Eka Rahmatullah, along with 27 Kesatria Mayangkara personnel, swiftly mobilized to work hand in hand with the local community to repair the bridges.

Efforts That Make a Difference

The team replaced damaged wooden planks with durable ironwood planks, ensuring the bridges' safety and longevity. A total of 125 ironwood planks were utilized in restoring the two damaged bridges, all provided through self-support efforts by the Yonif 503/Mayangkara Task Force.

The repair work brought tremendous relief and happiness to the people of Kalikote. With the bridge now fully restored, residents can cross safely without fear, and vehicles, including trucks carrying logistics from Amor Port to Kenyam District, can pass smoothly once again.

"Thank you very much, Mr. TNI, for repairing our damaged bridge. Now, it is safe and comfortable to cross, " expressed a grateful resident of Kalikote Village.

Reviving the Local Economy

Beyond safety, the bridge repair has had a direct impact on the region's economy. With transportation access restored, goods and essential supplies can move efficiently, ensuring economic stability and growth for local businesses and residents.

"With the restoration of the operational bridge, the economic cycle will automatically run smoothly. Hopefully, this initiative will benefit many people, especially the local community, " said Lieutenant Colonel Inf Gurbasa Samosir, Commander of Task Force Yonif 503/Mayangkara.

This initiative is a testament to the TNI's unwavering commitment to not only maintaining security but also actively contributing to the well-being and progress of the community. The presence of Yonif 503/Mayangkara Task Force continues to be a pillar of strength, resilience, and hope for the people of Papua.
