PAPUA - In the midst of Papua’s challenging terrain, an extraordinary transformation is taking place at the Yonif 432/WSJ Mapenduma Task Force Post. What was once barren, idle land has now flourished into a fertile vegetable garden, offering hope and food security to the soldiers stationed there. This incredible change was made possible by the skilled hands of Private Lalu Harus, a soldier of Lombok descent who inherited his family's farming knowledge. Friday, February, 28, 2025.
From Hard Soil to a Thriving Garden
The peat and clay soil of Mapenduma posed a significant challenge for cultivation. Yet, Private Lalu Harus saw an opportunity where others saw impossibility. With dedication and patience, he carefully worked the land, applying traditional farming techniques passed down from his ancestors in Lombok.
"This soil may be tough, but with patience and the right techniques, it can be made fertile, " said Private Lalu Harus, flashing his signature smile. "I just want to help my fellow soldiers so that we can have a sustainable food source here."
A Self-Sustaining Mapenduma Post
Thanks to this initiative, the Mapenduma Post is no longer dependent on external food supplies. Fresh vegetables harvested from their own garden now serve as daily nourishment, providing strength and motivation for the soldiers as they carry out their duties.
But this garden represents more than just food security—it is a symbol of resilience and hope, proving that even in the most difficult circumstances, life can flourish with dedication and hard work.
TNI’s Commitment to Positive Change
Pangkoops Habema, Maj. Gen. TNI Lucky Avianto, praised the initiative, saying:
"This is real proof that TNI is not only maintaining security but also bringing positive change to the community. The expertise of Private Lalu Harus is a true gift, and this garden is a miracle that brings new life to Mapenduma."
The story of Private Lalu Harus and his miraculous garden is an inspiration for everyone. It reminds us that passion, knowledge, and perseverance can turn challenges into opportunities, and that life can be created anywhere, even in the most unexpected places.
