PAPUA - In the heart of Papua’s remote and conflict-prone regions, compassion shines through the camouflage. What began as a routine day for TNI soldiers from Task Force Yonif 700/WYC at the Kotis Strong Point Post, Ilaga, Puncak Regency, turned into a race against time to save a life.
On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, as the scorching afternoon sun bathed Ilaga in golden light, a desperate mother appeared at the post, cradling her weak and feverish daughter, Siferia (13), a junior high school student from Ilaga. Her anxious eyes pleaded for help, her breath ragged from rushing across rugged terrain.
"The mother came in a hurry, her face full of worry. Her child looked weak and pale, " recalled Serda Fiqih, the Kotis Post Health NCO, recounting the critical moment.
Swift Action, A Life Saved
Without hesitation, Second Lieutenant Ckm Oza. S, a dedicated doctor from the Yonif 700/WYC Mobile Border Security Task Force, and Serda Fiqih sprang into action. They rushed Siferia to the public complaint hall, a makeshift medical station where they conducted an urgent examination.
Their fears were confirmed—Siferia had contracted malaria and was burning with a high fever. Wasting no time, Lt. Oza administered crucial medication to combat the parasite, stabilizing her condition before it worsened.
Moments later, Siferia’s breathing eased, her pale face regained color, and the tension in her mother’s shoulders melted away into a deep sigh of relief.
"We are very grateful to the TNI gentlemen. Without their help, I don't know what would have happened, " her mother whispered, tears welling in her eyes.
More Than Just Soldiers – They Are Family
For Pangkoops Habema, Major General Lucky Avianto, this was more than just a medical rescue—it was a testament to the TNI’s unwavering commitment to the people.
"This story is just one of many examples of our soldiers’ dedication to the communities they serve. In areas where health facilities are scarce, our troops become the lifeline, the hope that keeps these communities strong, " he affirmed.
With medical bags instead of rifles and kindness as their strongest weapon, these soldiers proved that TNI’s role extends far beyond security—it’s about humanity, unity, and unwavering devotion.
This was not just about saving a child—it was about strengthening the unbreakable bond between the TNI and the Papuan people. Behind every uniform beats a heart that serves, protects, and heals.
