From Honai to Heart: TNI’s Yonif 700/WYC Task Force Brings Unity and Warmth to Amungi Village

PAPUA - In the heart of Papua’s remote highlands, where mist-covered mountains cradle ancient traditions and the honai (traditional Papuan homes) stand as symbols of cultural resilience, the presence of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is not just seen it is deeply felt. July 31, 2025

The Task Force Yonif 700/Wira Yudha Cakti (WYC), through the Mayuberi Post, embarked on a meaningful “Honai Safari” in Amungi Village, North Ilaga District, led by Sergeant Jendri and his team. Far from being a ceremonial visit, this mission was a heartfelt outreach going door to door, from honai to honai, to meet residents face-to-face, listen to their stories, and offer aid in the form of basic essentials like Sargal (instant noodles). But the real gift they brought was far more profound: empathy, dignity, and human connection.

One of the first stops was the honai of Mr. Tius, a respected elder and community figure known for his deep connection to nature and local wisdom. As TNI personnel approached, smiles blossomed, and arms opened for warm embraces a silent but powerful testimony of mutual respect and growing trust between state and society.

“This Honai Safari is not just about distributing aid, ” explained Lieutenant Inf. Arif Natsir, Commander of the Mayuberi Post. “It’s about building emotional bridges. We’re not here merely as security forces we’re here as brothers, as family. We want to feel what the people feel, to stand with them, not above them.”

This deeply personal approach sitting on the floors of honai, sharing conversations, laughter, and even tears represents a quiet revolution in how military presence is perceived. It is no longer a symbol of distance or authority but a symbol of unity, love, and national brotherhood.

Mr. Tius, visibly moved, expressed heartfelt gratitude:

“I didn’t expect the TNI would come into my honai like this. They didn’t just bring food they brought care. This isn’t about noodles; it’s about being seen and valued. The TNI are like our own children coming home.”

This initiative aligns with the broader vision of Major General Lucky Avianto, Commander of the Habema Operations Command, who emphasized that the Honai Safari is emblematic of a deeper mission.

“Our presence in Papua isn’t just about protecting the border it’s about healing, empowering, and building lasting trust. Every honai we visit represents our unwavering commitment to the Papuan people, ” he said.

Indeed, these simple visits into the heart of communities are powerful reminders that nation-building begins with compassion, and that the bonds of unity are forged not in conference rooms, but on the earthen floors of honai, where stories are shared, hands are held, and hearts are opened.

Through the Honai Safari, Task Force Yonif 700/WYC reaffirms that the soul of Indonesia beats strongest where its people feel seen, heard, and embraced.
