PAPUA - Amidst the breathtaking yet challenging terrain of Papua, a fragile wooden bridge serves as the lifeline for the people of Kekey District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains. Over the years, this crucial bridge has fallen into disrepair, making daily activities more difficult and hindering the region’s economic growth.
However, hope was reignited on Monday (17/3/2024) when soldiers from the RI-PNG Border Security Task Force Yonif 1 Marinir Koops Habema, entrusted with safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, stepped in alongside local residents. United by the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation), they worked hand in hand to restore the damaged bridge.
"This effort is not just about rebuilding a bridge; it's about building a bridge of hearts between the TNI and the people, " said Lieutenant Colonel Marinir Siswanto, Commander of the Yonif 1 Marine Border Security Task Force, his voice filled with sincerity. "We want to be more than just security forces—we want to be part of the community, easing their burdens and supporting economic growth in this region."
United Efforts for a Stronger Future
Under the scorching Papuan sun, Marines and residents worked tirelessly, replacing decayed wooden planks, strengthening the support beams, and ensuring the bridge was sturdy and safe for the community.
For the people of Kekey District, this bridge is more than just infrastructure—it is their connection to a better life.
"We are deeply grateful to the TNI for helping us repair this bridge, " said Mama Yosepha, a local resident, with tears in her eyes. "This bridge is everything to us. Now, we can reach our farms, go to the market, and take our children to school without fear."
A Testament to the TNI’s Dedication to Papua
Meanwhile, Pangkoops Habema, Major General TNI Lucky Avianto, emphasized that this initiative is about more
than just infrastructure—it is about restoring hope and building a brighter future for the Papuan people."This is real proof that the TNI is not only here as a border guard but also as a friend and a brother to the people, " he stated.
With dedication and compassion, the TNI continues to stand side by side with the Papuan people, proving that true strength lies not only in arms but also in unity, empathy, and service to the nation.
