Smiles Beyond the Border: Marine Task Force Brings Joy to Papuan Children Through Kindness and Connection

YAHUKIMO - The Indonesian Border Security Task Force, PNG Mobile Infantry Battalion 1 Marines, under the Habema Operations Command, continues to strengthen its humanitarian approach while safeguarding national security in Papua. During a routine patrol in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Saturday (August 4, 2025), the Marines took time to engage with local children, spreading joy and fostering warm connections.

As the children were returning from school, the soldiers stopped to greet them and distributed school supplies, including stationery, to support their education. The spontaneous encounter brought smiles and heartfelt gratitude from the children, creating a moment of genuine happiness.

“Every soldier must be able to treat everyone with compassion, whether adults or children. This way, we can embrace all communities and ensure the task force is welcomed wherever we are assigned, ” said Lieutenant Colonel Siswanto, Commander of the Marine Infantry Battalion 1 Task Force.

The interaction exemplifies the human-centered approach emphasized in Habema Command’s operations in Papua. Beyond security patrols, the Marines are committed to building trust and inclusive engagement with the local population.

Major General Lucky Avianto, Commander of the Habema Operations Command, praised the initiative as part of the Indonesian Armed Forces’ broader mission.

“This act of social communication with Papuan children is a reflection of the TNI’s inclusive approach to community engagement. It supports the government's efforts to accelerate development and foster unity across the Papua region, ” he stated.

By blending compassion with duty, the Marines of Battalion 1 are not only securing the border they are bridging hearts and building a peaceful future with the people they serve.
