PAPUA - In a remote corner of Papua, where dense forests and rivers define the landscape, soldiers from Mobile Pamtas Task Force Yonif 733/Masariku are building more than just infrastructure they are restoring access to education and hope for the future.
On July 8, 2025, the Task Force carried out bridge repair operations at Rimba Mumugu Elementary School, located in the Sawa Erma District. The bridge, which serves as the only access point for students and teachers, had deteriorated due to age and harsh weather, posing a serious threat to daily school commutes.
“We are committed to ensuring that children can reach school safely and comfortably. This bridge repair is a concrete step in supporting educational programs in border and remote areas, ” said Lieutenant Colonel Inf Julius Jongen Matakena, Commander of Task Force Yonif 733/Masariku.
The repair work involved replacing damaged wooden planks, reinforcing structural supports, and installing safety features to protect young students who cross the bridge daily.
Safety First, Learning Always
The Principal of Rimba Mumugu Elementary School expressed deep gratitude to the soldiers for their timely assistance.
“This bridge repair has brought great relief. Parents no longer worry when sending their children to school, and the learning process can now continue without disruption, ” he said.
The improved infrastructure is expected to boost school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and create a safer learning environment for local children.
Strengthening Bonds Between Soldiers and Society
Beyond the physical impact, this initiative also reinforces the TNI’s commitment to community-based development in Papua. The presence of soldiers is not just about securing borders but also about bridging gaps in opportunity and strengthening the relationship between the military and local communities.
“We will continue similar infrastructure projects across our operational areas, as a testament to the TNI’s unwavering dedication to the people and the nation, ” Lt. Col. Matakena added.
The bridge at Rimba Mumugu now stands not just as a crossing over water, but as a symbol of unity, resilience, and a brighter future for Papua’s next generation.
